The myth of Medusa

Sydnee as Medusa

Medusa was once a beautiful women who lived in Athens. She knew she was beautiful and made sure the rest of the world did too. She would brag of her beautiful hair, and her lovely green eyes, and the curve of her lips. Flaunting her beauty in the face of others. One day the great goddess Athena caught wind of Medusa bregging of her beauty and saying that she was even more beautiful than Athen herself. This enraged Athena and Athena came to her and told her that she would no longer be beautiful, she turned her hair to snakes and cursed her so man would never be able to look upon her face again, and if they do they shall turn to stone. Then Athena banished Medusa to live out eternity with the three blind Gorgon sisters.

Reading notes option 1 (5/28)

I love Sydnee's eyes, nuff said. But really, I like this picture because I believe it uses good side lighting or at least the best I could get and she looks good. Her one side is not too darkened and the other is not over exposed. I also like this picture because she fills the entire frame and I like the expression on her face, she almost seems sad (or bored of taking pictures, we will go with sad). Because we took this in the lobby and she wasn't sitting in direct sunlight and it was more muted I set my ISO to 500 so my shutter speed wasn't too low, even though it was set at 1/30 it still made for a clear picture. My aperture was set at 5.6 because I did not want to sacrifice my shutter speed or raise my ISO. I also like the effect the 5.6 aperture gives.

Reading notes Opt 3

I came upon this lady when I was wandering down a random alley in Kamari. She was sitting outside a hotel, and I was on a roll with asking strangers to take their pictures, so I complimented her earrings and said that I'd like to take her picture because of them. She light up, got kinda nervous, and said "here let me stand up" and so the first pictures we took were outside, and she had ripped off her glasses so I could take the picture. After a couple shots outside she looked at the picture and said that she liked it and wanted me to send it to her over facebook. We went into the lobby and she had me add her as a friend, then I asked her if she wanted more pictures, and she said yes. This time she took her glasses off and let her hair down and this picture is the result. Because we moved inside I had less light to work with so I turned up my ISO to 400 and my shutter speed all the way down to 1/15. Because my shutter speed was so low I braced my elbows on the counter and snapped the shot. I actually took out a little of the saturation because her skin and the wall behind her looked very orange. I think I like this better because it tones down the color, yet her eyes still sparkle and her earrings still pop.
